The mise-en-scène in a film is generally the noticeable features that the directorial team specifically style to create the image the audience sees. It is essentially everything contained in the shot, the setting, lighting, costumes and the acting style; all these factors convey important features of the film through non-verbal or dialog elements.   Mise en scène, pronounced meez-ahn-sen, is a term used to describe the setting of a scene in a play or a film. It refers to everything placed on the stage or in front of the camera—including people. In other words, mise en scène is a catch-all for everything that contributes to the visual presentation and overall “look” of a production.

Book Description. A free and open-source introduction to the art and science of cinema. From the earliest iterations to the latest innovations, this introductory text explores the tools and techniques of mise-en-scene, narrative form, cinematography, editing, sound and acting, how each has contributed to the evolution of cinematic language, and how that .   Modern script breakdown software takes mise en scène out of the theoretical and into the physical and the practical. It enables filmmakers to track and flex the 21 essential mise en scène elements we’ve reviewed in this article.

She relies on scholars, professors, family members and residents of the cities from her travels to provide the instructive mise-en-scène that accompanies her analysis. Modern criticism labors under an aphoristic misconception—or, rather, the misconception of an aphorism—even more grievous than the fixation of mise en scène.
